Lithium Universe (ASX: LU7) Executive Chair Iggy Tan joins HotCopper’s John Davidson to discuss the company’s strategic pivot into solar panel recycling and what it means for investors. With lithium prices in a cyclical downturn, LU7 is capitalising on its chemical engineering expertise and a new partnership with Macquarie University to develop a patented microwave-based PV recycling technology. The goal is to efficiently recover high-value metals like silver, gallium, indium, and silicon from end-of-life solar panels—a waste stream expected to reach 80 million tonnes by 2035.  

Solar Panel Recycling: Lithium Universe is partnering with Macquarie University to commercialise microwave-based PV recycling technology that efficiently separates and recovers critical metals from end-of-life solar panels. 

Silver Recovery Opportunity: With silver demand surging and prices at a 14-year high, LU7 sees strong potential in extracting silver from discarded panels—capitalising on a growing global waste stream. 

Ongoing Lithium Strategy: While expanding into solar recycling, the company remains committed to its Bécancour Lithium Refinery project in Québec, with work progressing toward securing a long-term spodumene supply. 

Near-Term Investor Milestones: Upcoming developments include pilot testing of the recycling technology, R&D progress, and continued news flow from both the lithium and recycling arms of the business.
