In this interview, Lithium Universe Executive Chairman Iggy Tan discusses the company’s breakthrough in recovering high-purity silver from end-of-life solar panels using technology developed with Macquarie University. The process combines microwave heating to delaminate solar panels with Jet Electrochemical Silver Extraction (JESE), producing silver of 96% purity (Britannia-grade) while preserving silicon wafers for reuse. With silver prices rising sharply and only 15% of solar panels currently recycled, the technology addresses both environmental and commercial opportunities.

He highlights the scale of the global PV waste challenge, calling it “Australia’s largest silver mine,” and outlines plans for optimisation studies, pilot plants, and eventual commercialisation.
